fitzroyFitzroy Facey formerly “Da Buzzboy” a true “soul survivor” like many from his generation, danced as a teenager on the West End club circuit and progressed to becoming a DJ, Remixer, Producer, Compiler, Songwriter, radio and media Presenter with nearly 30 years experience behind him. With all these aptitudes Fitzroy has been able to reach audiences UK and beyond with his unique and eclectic mix of various black music fruit genres that have been spawned from the jazz funk and soul roots.

Fitzroy carved himself a niche working with live acts mainly at the Mean Fiddler’s Jazz Café since 1991, establishing a repertoire that has supported an eclectic whose who’s list of world famous Black music artist’s from the 70’s including Gil Scott Heron, Roy Ayers, Bobby Byrd, Gwen McCrea, Rose Royce, The Crusaders and War to 90’s acts Digable Planets, The Pharcyde, Omar, Incognito, Carleen Anderson, Courtney Pine, Ereka Badu, Jill Scott, London Gospel Community Choir, Sounds Of Blackness, De La Soul, Naughty By Nature to present day performers Raphael Saadiq, Bilal, Rahsaan Patterson, Brian McKnight, Floetry, Gerald Levert (R.I.P), Conya Doss, Eric Roberson, Angie Stone, Leela James Dwele, Mint Condition and Pete Rock.

His resume within other spheres of the entertainment and media industry includes the 2000 MOBO Awards After Party and several guest radio shows on Solar, Kiss FM, GLR and Choice FM. The BBC1 Tribute to Muhammad Ali in 1998 credited Fitzroy for his musical contribution to this highly successful documentary. He also appeared in BBC 2’s “Dance Energy’s” “James Brown Special” and ITV’s “Club A Vision”. In recent years Fitzroy has DJ’d at the Indigo2 for the late Teena Marie, Cameo, UB40’s lead vocalist, Ali Cambell, Angie Stone and Steve Arrington.

Fitzroy has remixed various recordings, some appearing on numerous compilation albums. He has a gold selling album he mixed in 2002 for the Warner Brothers group under his belt. Released in November 2013 Fitzroy’s creative mind project managed, selected, compiled, wrote the sleeve notes and drew the artwork for Expansion’s The Sounds Of Universal Love CD.

He’s been credited on occasion in books documenting the history of black music. Fitzroy in autumn 2014 was featured on Sky’s OHTV channel’s program Culture Vulture, to discuss on two episodes the importance of six musicians and six singers for their Black History features. He was also a panellist on a Q&A session as an authority on James Brown in connection with the Ritzy in Brixton’s screening of the biopic “Get On Up” and a mental health awareness debate.

Fitzroy co-founded the bi-monthly magazine “The Soul Survivors” aimed at the 70’s & 80’s teenage Soul Jazz Funk generation in 2006. Distributed around the UK and abroad, and has personally interviewed many artists including Smokey Robinson, Jocelyn Brown, Omar, Leroy Burgess, Jean Carn, Jeffery Daniel (Shalimar), Melba Moore, Chaka Khan, Eddie Levert (O Jay’s), Ronald Khalis Bell (Kool & The Gang) Frankie Beverly (Maze), Brand New Heavies, John Legend, Leon Ware, Larry Blackmon (Cameo), Wayne Henderson, George Duke, Thelma Houston, Teena Marie, Tom Moulton, John Morales, Louie Vega, Josh Milan, Nile Rodgers (Chic), Steve Arrington (Slave), Larry Graham (Sly & The Family Stone), Tony Blackburn, Candy Staton, Jarrod Lawson, Tito Jackson, Jazzie B, Ernie Isley , Cheryl Lynn, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Patrick Adams and Marc Mac(4hero)

Fitzroy has written the artist and DJ profiles for Southport weekender’s official magazine program as well as DJ-ing at various established weekenders like Southport, Blackpool Luxury Soul and Prestatyn. Motown legend Leon Ware asked Fitzroy personally to voice over his EPK as well as doing voice overs for radio and music adverts. He earns air miles regularly also DJ-ing abroad at soul holidays in Portugal, Ibiza and Barbados

Fitzroy is doing what he loves…sharing his passion and education of music with the universal world and brings that about with a weekly series of Soul Survivors syndicated shows on Ramjam and Stomp radio stations. Fitzroy is equally proficient in festival environments as he is to appearances at more intimate venues. His tenacious attitude and determination to always deliver his best under all conditions has earned Fitzroy a keen and dedicated following and a reputation in the business for delivering something just a little bit unique on the Soul and Jazz scene.
